-
Novice Class is intended for beginning autocrossers. You are
NOT eligible for the Novice class if you have:
-
competed in more than 33% of any prior year's events
(e.g., for the
2009 series: Championship series plus Slush series equals
18 events; 33% is less than
6
events. You are ineligible if you ran
6 or more events in 2009 in any class.)
-
earned any regular season trophies (Regional, Divisional, Tour, Nationals)
-
earned any Championship season trophies for any Novice Class (except event trophies
or special competition trophies)
-
earned a Winter Slush first place trophy (unless as the only eligible competitor in
the class)
-
been judged ineligible by the Novice Class Administrator or Solo Program
Chair (see below)
-
Autocross experience from another region and otherwise
qualify -- give the real novices a break!
-
There are two novice classes:
NS for all Street Touring
category cars, and N for all others.
- Entrants in each novice class will have their times adjusted by the SFR Handicapping indexes to determine order of finish in their class. N and NS classes are separate because Street Touring Indexes already account for street tires, other categories do not so batching them together would give an advantage to Street Touring category cars.
-
Only cars fitted with "Street Tires" may run in Novice classes.
"Street Tires" are (by current SCCA definition) tires displaying a DOT treadwear
rating of 140 or greater.
-
Novice is not the same as Street Tire Class! Street Tire classes are for anyone to run when they do not want to use DOT Competition radial tires (also called R-Tires, Hoosiers,
Kumhos, etc.) Novices please register in a Novice class and do not sign up for T1, T2 or other Street Tire classes.
-
Novices must run in their specified run group to be eligible for points.
SFR has mentor drivers available at the registration table, so don't hesitate
to approach them for help, information, or rides.
Also, any competitor may be open to giving you rides on
their first run if you ask.
-
Car Identification: Street Touring category Novice
cars display NS
(for Novice ST class) their regular class (e.g.,
NS-ST, NS-STU, NS-STS); all others display an
N
(for Novice class) plus their regular class (N-SM,
N-AS, N-CSP). ID must appear on both sides of your car according to SCCA standards to
ensure that timing and scoring can correctly associate your times with you.
-
The Novice classes run
together in the same run group, and are designated as "Novices"
in run group descriptions.
-
There are no separate Ladies' Novice classes. Ladies may run in
their regular Ladies' classes, naturally.
-
Trophies will be awarded to the winners of each Novice class at
the end of the year according to the
SFR
Supplemental Regulations.
-
The Novice Class Administrator will verify eligibility of all entrants.
The
administrator can make appropriate adjustments to the class rules if necessary
to ensure fairness to all competitors.
